Christmas

The Festival of Christmas is the favorite season of many Christians.  It begins at sundown on Christmas Eve and continues for 12 days to the Festival of the Epiphany.

(Note that this is very different from the our everyday culture which begins celebrating the Christmas season on Thanksgiving weekend and finishes on Christmas Day -- on Christmas Day, the church's celebration is just getting started!)

This is the celebration of the Incarnation, the Word of God made Flesh in Jesus the Christ.  Christmas Day is His birthday!  The giving of gifts on this day and throughout the season is in His honor.

At St. Stephen's, we celebrate this season with the richness of Christmas music and Christmas greens throughout the church.  The color of the season is white (reflecting the purity of Christ).  Often we mix in the richness of red flowers and holly berries.  Lights fill the church.

We begin on Christmas Eve with a Family service that features our children presenting Luke's story of the Nativity.  We observe our patronal festival, St. Stephen's Day during this season. We conclude our 12 day observance on the Sunday morning just prior to January 6 when our members enact Matthew's story of the coming of the Magi.
