Lent

Lent is the most somber season of the church year.  The word lent comes from a Latin word which means to lengthen, since, in the northern hemisphere, the days begin to lengthen in this season.

Lent is time of repentance, in preparation for the solemn observance of Jesus' death and resurrection.  The church is bare and stark during this time.  Many Christians renew their spiritual life with reading scripture, fasting and special prayers.

Our services tend to be simple, and we use a great deal of chanting to invite everyone into a time of deeper prayer and contemplation.
