Celebrate Advent at Home
The liturgical season of Advent marks the time of preparation before Christmas for the coming of the Messiah; a time of anticipation and waiting for the incarnation in Jesus Christ. Advent spans four Sundays and four weeks of preparation before Christmas, although the last week of Advent is usually shortened due to the day on which Christmas falls.
The celebration of Advent has evolved in the spiritual life of the Church. It has been a penitential season, like Lent. It has been a season of hope and love. But most of all, Advent helps keep Christmas on Christmas Day: a true fulfillment, not just an end, of what has gone before. Advent shapes all the preparation and anticipation for receiving the fulfillment of Christmas Day — the ultimate gift of God, the gift of Jesus Christ giving life to the world.
