Welcome to St. Stephen’s!

About Us

Our mission as a people of faith is to “love and minister to our neighbors, each other, and our children.” We practice this through worship, learning, and service, trusting that God is guiding us to a new expression of ministry in a changing Seattle and ever-changing church.

We believe that God speaks to us through scripture, tradition, and reason, and we engage our intellect and our senses to explore our faith and discern how we can share God’s unconditional love and acceptance of all people and all of creation.

Who We Are

We are a vibrant and inclusive Christian community, part of the Episcopal tradition of following Jesus into loving, liberating, and life-giving relationships with God, with each other, and with the earth. St. Stephen’s is rooted in the Laurelhurst neighborhood, while engaged with the wider Seattle community as well, serving and celebrating this mission and ministry for over 100 years.

If you are looking for a place where you can grow in love of God, service to this world, and gather strength for the living of daily life, please come and worship with us. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome at St. Stephen’s!

She values her relationships with members of the parish, both long-standing and new, and is always available for a cup of coffee and conversation or a walk in Laurelhurst Park.

John Terauds

John Terauds

Minister of Music

I’m very much looking forward to contributing to St. Stephen’s worship life at the Bond organ. I have spent much of the last six months as the interim organist at Trinity Parish downtown. I am employed full-time as a hospice chaplain by Kline Galland. Prior to beginning my first parish internship as a seminarian in 2018, I spent 37 years as a church music director, and spent most of my adult life working as a writer and editor at the Toronto Star daily newspaper in Canada. I moved to Seattle in April (from Sidney, Iowa), and have been sampling all that Seattle, Puget Sound, and the Cascades have to offer. My husband and I live near Seward Park, so I hope to use my time at St. Stephen’s as an opportunity to explore more of what lies north of the Ship Canal.
